Now this is a crash that absolutely, 100% could have been avoided, by both parties. You can tell as soon as 5 seconds into the video that traffic ahead was slowing down, while the Silverado driver and the driver of the dashcam vehicle were still doing 75 mph (120 km/h).
You can even hear the cammer’s collision warning system sound off right as the white Silverado begins to brake and not-so-gracefully slides into a 180-degree spin.
The cammer was so close that he had to veer off the road as well. It was such a close call that we’re not sure the two vehicles made contact, with the cammer also braking and steering left, probably missing the Chevy’s front end by mere inches and barely managing not to hit the barrier. According to the dashcam’s time stamp, the incident took place on December 6, somewhere along Interstate 49.

Failing to notice slow traffic ahead is a major problem, one that will often result in a reasonably harsh impact, seen as how one or more vehicles are automatically traveling at higher speeds than the ones ahead. To be fair, the cammer did exhibit pretty good reflexes, just not good enough so as to completely avoid that off-road excursion. Also, good reflexes don’t necessarily make up for poor judgement, which might as well be the moral of this incident.
In the end, it’s a good thing no other vehicles were involved and, if we had to guess, we’d say that nobody was injured. Hopefully both drivers now understand the importance of keeping a safe distance to the car ahead.
