Tesla’s Sentry Mode has caught kinds of behavior on its cameras. Sometimes it’s something as innocuous as mistaking a Model 3 for a Hyundai but, more often than not, it captures incidents that are far worse.
The latest happened to Alan Tweedie’s Model 3 while he was watching a soccer game at a local high school in Broomfield, Colorado. After returning home, he noticed his vehicle had been keyed.
Tweedie looked at footage recorded by his car’s Sentry Mode and found a woman causally keying his car for no apparent reason. As you can see in the clip, the woman walks up to the car, keys in hand, and purposely scratches the vehicle as she walks down the aisle. Tweedie was understandably upset about the damage, but thankfully the cameras got a good look at the offender.

The video quickly went viral and Tweedie talked about it with Denver’s CBS 4. He told the station he doesn’t know the woman or why she did it, but said the scratches are so deep “you can feel down to bare metal.”
He reported the incident to the Broomfield police department, who is currently investigating. The damage is estimated at approximately $2,000 (£1,627 / €1,835) and the female who vandalized the Tesla could be facing felony charges.
According to Electrek, a police department spokesperson commented that these types of crimes are typically hard to investigate due to lack of evidence. In this case, though, with the video at its disposal and its ever increasing reach, the hope is that the police will be able to identify the culprit – or, maybe, after all the publicity her act got, she’ll just turn herself in.
