While Jay Leno owns a dizzying array of classic sports cars and supercars, he is also a big fan of electric vehicles and recently put the 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition to the test.

Before heading out onto the streets of Los Angeles with the car, the comedian has the opportunity to speak with Lucid’s senior vice president of design Derek Jenkins and then chief executive Peter Rawlinson.

The Lucid Air Dream Edition is the first variant to reach the hands of customers and is offered in Performance and Range guises. The Performance variant pumps out a total of 1,111 hp from its two electric motors built in-house and hits 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.5 seconds. By comparison, the Range model delivers 933 hp and hits 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. As its name suggests, it is more focused on range and can travel 520 miles (836 km) on a single charge on 19-inch wheels. The Performance can travel 471 miles (758 km) with the 19-inch wheels.

Throughout the video, we get to hear about the design philosophy from Jenkins but interestingly, very little is spoken about the car’s interior. Nevertheless, when Leno does head out onto the road with Rawlinson in the passenger seat, he is full of praise for the car.

Leno notes that the car seems to shrink around you when you’re driving it and is blown away by the rolling acceleration.
