The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm and Porsche 911 GT3 are not direct rivals but they are both keenly focused on track performance and CarWow recently put the duo through a series of tests on a circuit in the UK.
In terms of power, the Giulia GTAm has the advantage as its 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 pumps out 532 hp, all of which is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. By comparison, the 911 GT3’s 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six has 503 hp. The power discrepancy is more than offset by the Porsche’s lighter overall weight, however.

During the test, the Italian sedan with Mat Watson behind the wheel set a best time of 47.6 seconds while the Porsche lapped the same circuit in 46.1 seconds. These results shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, but can the more powerful Giulia GTAm keep up with the Porsche in a straight line?
During some performance testing, the Giulia GTAm set a best 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.24 seconds, 0-100 mph (160 mph) in 8.28 seconds, and stopped from 100 mph in 4.24 seconds. Those figures are impressive, but not as impressive as the 911 GT3’s that hit 60 mph in 3.46 seconds, 100 mph in 7.53 seconds, and stopped from 100 mph in 3.96 seconds.
As the Giulia tested was the flagship GTAm model, it has been equipped with a roll cage in the place of the rear seats meaning that, like the Porsche, it is a two-seater. If we had to choose between the two, we would take the GT3. In the off-chance that we had to put more than one passenger into the equation, the slightly less-focused Giulia GTA does come with rear seats, making it a much more practical, yet still hugely enjoyable, option.
