The Cayenne Turbo GT is Porsche’s latest super SUV and Matt Farah recently had the opportunity to put it to the test.

Ever since the Lamborghini Urus was launched, it has been the king of SUVs, thanks in no small part to its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that Porsche had a hand in tuning. Evidently, Porsche decided that it wanted in on the action and unveiled the Cayenne Turbo GT last month, available exclusively in Coupe guise and slotting above the Turbo and Turbo S E-Hybrid in the range.

Powering the SUV is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that pumps out 631 hp and 626 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. While that is less power than the Urus and the Turbo S E-Hybrid, the Cayenne Turbo GT is even more track-focused than those two. For example, it sits 17 mm lower than the Turbo Coupe, has 15 per cent firmer air suspension, and features Active Suspension Management (PASM), Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), Power Steering Plus, and rear-axle steering. The front wheels are also 1-inch wider and have 0.45 degrees of extra negative camber.

When driving the SUV in the canyons near Los Angeles, Farah says he has never driven an SUV that turns in as hard as the Cayenne Turbo GT, including the Urus. It is capable of cornering at truly mind-boggling speeds. The engine is also superb and is very rev-happy. What’s more, the ride is also excellent.

So, a few small complaints aside, like the wind buffeting when you wind down the windows, is the Cayenne Turbo GT the best performance SUV you can buy right now?
