The Charger was first Introduced in 1966 as a stunning yet meaty two-door muscle car that nipped at the ankles of Mustangs and other muscle cars of its era.

Of course, back then, the idea of a muscle car with more than a single pair of doors was taboo – people just couldn’t see how a four-door sedan could ever keep up. Times have changed, however, and achieving muscle car performance with an extra set of doors and a little legroom is a perfectly achievable goal, a goal that the Charger has adapted to accordingly.

The main reason behind the modern-day Charger‘s new design was to offer a more practical alternative to its two–door cousin, the Challenger. That doesn’t mean that the Charger hides at the back while the Challenger takes the spotlight. The Charger is just as capable, with the bonus of extra passengers not having to climb over your shoulders to get seated.

The 2020 Charger Scat Pack is a testament to non-believers. It’s got 455 horses from its 6.4-liter SRT Hemi V8 and, according to Regular Car Reviews, “the result is rolling burnouts from 40 mph”. Which is more than enough to get us interested.

However, the instant hoon-ability doesn’t mean that the Charger isn’t driveable. Nor will it land you in jail (or hospital) at the sight of the gas pedal. This trim comes with high-performance suspension, launch control, and electronic stability control, all designed to tame the beast into a pliable grocery-getter when needed.

The Charger Scat Pack is the solution for those that have a family but also want to have a bit of performance at their disposal. Is it the most practical option on offer? Probably not. But who wouldn’t want to do a quarter-mile in 14 seconds on the way back from dropping the kids at school?
