After a short delay, the long-awaited 2021 Genesis GV80 has landed in the United States and the first reviews have been posted online.
The new SUV is available with two engines. Sitting at the base of the range is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder producing 300 hp and 311 lb-ft (422 Nm) of torque. This engine is available in RWD Standard, Advanced and Prestige trim levels, priced at $48,900, $52,800 and $57,050 respectively. Buyers can also opt for an all-wheel drive system on each of these three variants.

Sitting above the 2.5-liter is a more punchy 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with 375 hp and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque. It is available in AWD Standard, AWD Advanced, AWD Advanced+ and AWD Prestige grades with prices ranging from $59,150 to $70,950.
In order to compete with its European rivals, such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Genesis clearly spent a lot of time making the GV80 as refined as possible. Has it succeeded?
Based on these reviews, it appears to have done just that. In the video from Redline Reviews featuring the 3.5-liter model, for example, the presenter says it’s probably not as fast as its German rivals but is very impressed with its sophistication. He is also a fan of the rear-wheel drive-based platform as it means the GV80 can get a little playful if you’re pushing it to its limits.
