Alfa Romeo has produced some of the most beloved cars to ever hit the roads and in order to see if new is better than old, Throttle House recently tested a 2020 Giulia Quadrifoglio against a classic 1973 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV.
The Italian car manufacturer built the 2000 GTV between 1971 and 1976. Compared to lesser variants that used 1.6-liter engines, it featured a 2.0-liter engine rated at a respectable, for the time, 150 hp. The car also left the factory with a manual transmission, enlarged brakes, rear-wheel drive and a limited-slip differential. It is a very special thing and one of the most representative vehicles of the Alfa Romeo brand.

By comparison, the Giulia Quadrifoglio is very different. For starters, it is a four-door sedan while the 2000 GTV is a two-door. The Giulia also has a very different engine.
Sitting beneath its bonnet is a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that puts out 503 hp at 6,500 rpm and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque between 2,500 and 5,000 rpm. While the car has been on the market for a few years now, it remains a serious performer and is one of the fastest and most engaging sports sedans on sale.
However, everyone knows that Alfa Romeo vehicles are about much more than numbers and statistics. The brand’s models all have their own unique personalities and the kind of quirks you can only find in Italian automobiles. With that in mind, can the Giulia Quadrifoglio get your heart pumping in the same way as the 2000 GTV?
