The eighth-generation VW Golf has landed in various markets and it looks to be quite a compelling proposition, as this review confirms.
Not too long ago, the Golf was considered the go-to hatchback and while it is still hugely popular, Japanese and in particular South Korean automakers have really stepped up their game in recent years, launching hatches like the current i30 that want to knock the Golf off its throne.

Like many new cars on the market, the Mk8 Golf is a bit of a tech fest. For example, the car comes equipped with an all-digital gauge cluster and two available infotainment screens of different sizes. In general, the design of the cabin is much more minimalist than previous iterations of the Golf, something that’s particularly evident with the apparent lack of physical buttons and switches. In fact, pretty much all of the buttons are located on the steering wheel, while things such as the volume and temperature adjustments are controlled through a set of sliders beneath the infotainment screen.
The example featured in this review was the Golf 1.5 eTSI MHEV variant that uses a 1.5-liter engine which is mated to a mild-hybrid system and a dual-clutch DSG transmission. It is good for a total of 150 hp between 5,000 and 6,000 rpm as well as 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm.
