Porsche is one of just a few car luxury sports car manufacturers that continues to offer some of its models with manual transmissions and this includes variants of the iconic 911.
Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire was fortunate enough to test out the 992-generation 911 Carrera S in Cabriolet guise with the available seven-speed manual transmission and was extremely impressed with it.
Driving the car is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 444 HP (450 PS) and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque. The Cabriolet weighs a touch more than the Carrera S Coupe but Farah says it is pretty much impossible to notice the added heft when driving the car on the road.

The manual transmission is also superb. Farah says that like the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, the gearing is very long but because the 911 Carrera S has a twin-turbocharged engine, the torque it offers means the car never feels labored despite the tall gears.
In the past, car enthusiasts could poke fun at convertible versions of sports cars, lamenting them as being heavy and soft. However, Farah has no such qualms about the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, saying that it offers essentially the same driving experience and performance as the Coupe, all while providing occupants with an even better chance to hear the turbocharged engine whistling away.
Prices for the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet start at $127,900 in the United States. That’s not cheap but for the driving experience it provides, it seems to be worth it.
