The all-new 2021 Hyundai Elantra (a.k.a. the Avante in Korea) represents a major departure from its predecessor and that becomes most apparent when the two successive generations are put side by side.
YouTuber Asian Petrolhead had the opportunity to compare the sixth- and seventh-generation Elantras in mid-range specification. It’s worth mentioning that both cars featured in the video are rentals, as 2021 Avante press cars are not yet available in Korea. This explains the white color and small 15-inch rims on both vehicles.
The most obvious difference between the two compact sedans is the design. The latest model looks way more aggressive and dynamic than its predecessor thanks to the new ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ styling language. That holds true even compared to the facelifted sixth-gen Elantra which was dramatically improved compared to the rather bland pre-facelift iteration.

It looks like Hyundai put a lot of effort into the 2021 Elantra, as both the exterior and interior are a cut above the sixth-gen model. This well-equipped mid-range model has a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen that completely change the way the dashboard look compared to the basic looks of its predecessor’s interior.
The new Elantra brings improvements when it comes to practicality too, especially for rear seat passengers who enjoy more headroom, knee-room and legroom than before. There’s not much driving in the video other than some low-speed stints in the city, but the reviewer notes the noise and vibration levels are much lower than with the previous model.
