Unlike the bigger RS6, the 2020 Audi RS4 Avant won’t be offered in North America, but it was recently facelifted, so it deserves our attention.
Presented last fall, nearly two years after the new generation RS4 broke cover at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the latest premium compact super estate from the German company brings revised styling. Notable changes include the new front and rear bumpers, headlights and taillights and updated single-frame grille.

Audi chose to keep the changes simple inside as well, concentrating instead on what really matters. As such, the interior design carries over largely unchanged but brings a new infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen display, digital instrument cluster and steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara. The sporty accents are still present and include the body-hugging front seats, carbon fiber trim, contrast stitching, aluminum inserts and RS badges.
Power continues to come from a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which works in conjunction with the smooth-shifting eight-speed Tiptronic transmission and Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. The 450 PS (444 HP / 391 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque available from the V6 rocket it to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.1 seconds and up to 250 km/h (155 mph). Should you want to go faster, the top speed can be increased as an option to 280 km/h (174 mph).
It’s obvious that Audi Sport did not want to mess with a winning recipe, so the changes are minor. This means that in theory, the 2020 RS4 is better than ever, but does this apply in the real world?
