The new generation Audi A8 has already proved to be a worthy contender to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series. With the S8, though, Audi have spiced things up.

For a sedan that weighs around 2 tons (~4,400 lbs), it’s shockingly quick. Zero to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) takes only 3.8 seconds, and if it wasn’t electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h), then it would probably get very close, or even beyond, the 200 mph (322 km/h) mark.

The mild-hybrid 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that powers it delivers 563 HP and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque to the Quattro all-wheel drive system, which features a sport rear differential, via an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The all-wheel steering system improves its cornering ability and the clever suspension reduces understeer while also providing a true magic carpet ride.

Thanks to the great soundproofing, active noise cancellation, active engine mounts that absorb vibration and a few other tricks, the 2020 S8 is dead quiet inside. It’s also packed with the latest technology gear and boasts great build quality, although if one were to find a fault, that would be the lack of storage spaces.

Head- and legroom for rear passengers is very good even in the short wheelbase model, and since it’s been designed to be used with a chauffeur too, it gets a removable tablet in the rear that can be used to control different functions, such as the lights, blinds and radio. The rear seat entertainment system is also on deck, along with the fridge, footrest with massage function and even a mobile espresso machine.

If you’re looking for a car that screams ‘look at me’, then the new S8 isn’t the one for you. However, if you want space for the family, supercar-like handling and acceleration and great build quality, then you may have found the perfect ride – and it’ll cost you $129,500 in the U.S.
