To say the new Audi S6 is a little controversial would be an understatement as, in Europe, it is powered by a diesel engine. Yes, a diesel.

Once upon a time, the the S6 came with a 5.2-liter version of the naturally aspirated V10 found in the Lamborghini Gallardo. It was quite an impressive piece of kit. Can the same be said about the new car?

In this video, Car Throttle host Alex Kersten recruited the help of his four-year-old son Luca to see what the new the new S6 and its diesel engine are all about.

In Europe, the only engine on offer is a 3.0-liter V6 TDI that produces 344 HP and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) is dealt with in a respectable 5.1 seconds and the car will continue to accelerate until it tops out at a limited 155 mph (250 km/h).

To Luca, the Audi S6 is quite fast and has a nice interior. One aspect he isn’t so fond of is the absolutely horrible fake exhaust tips which, unsurprisingly, have already ruffled a few feathers.

We’re sure at least some customers will be upset that in the U.S. and other markets Audi is offering its sports estate with a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter petrol V6 with a much more impressive 444 hp and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque. Seems like, for once, Europeans got the short end of the stick by one of their own manufacturers – or did they?
