Peugeot just released their most powerful production car yet. Not quite the statement of the century, but it is significant, in part because it isn’t yet another over-the-line hunky SUV but a wagon/estate/tourer/sport wagon — whatever you want to call it.
Peugeot calls it the 508 PSE Hybrid4 360 e-EAT8 4WD. The broad strokes are that it’s a plugin hybrid station wagon with plenty of punch. The French have seemingly decided not to throw all the eggs into the crossover/SUV basket, and have instead given us a tasty tourer that might just be a genuine alternative to the likes of Audi and Mercedes. The latter rule the roost in this body style, so the bar has been set pretty high.

Peugeot has made sure not to build just any old boring wagon with a little extra power. From the very first glance, you could tell that the Sport 508 PSE (which stands for Peugeot Sport Engineered) is performance-inspired. The featured car is wrapped in ‘Selenium Grey’ with subtle lime green badging and brake calipers. The body of the car has aggressive styling, including sports car-inspired side skirts and rear bumper winglets that make the Audi RS6 look tame.
Inside, the 508 PSE is an equally impressive experience with Nappa leather seats and a cross-stitch design in lime green to match the exterior badging. Additionally, the beautiful carbon fiber accented dash panel with piano key style buttons attached to the center console giving it an air of premium.
Under the hood of this French estate is a rather tame-sounding 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that receives E-assistance for a full capacity of 355 hp to all four wheels, resulting in a not-so-tame 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 5.2 seconds. The 508 also gives you a comfort mode that will soften up the suspension for a more enjoyable drive, an E-Save mode that will allow drivers to save energy that can be used when required, and an EV mode that will give you around 26 miles of electric-only driving.
