The Americas accounted for the bulk of vehicle output affected by the microchip shortage in the latest update from AutoForecast Solutions. The production of 75,000 additional vehicles was estimated to be lost in the 10 days since the previous report.

Key change

Ford’s plant in Oakville, Ontario (Edge, Nautilus), added about 18,500 units, bringing its total to 33,000. 

The big picture

  • Number of vehicles not produced because of announced closures to date: 780,000, up from 705,000 as of Feb. 16.
  • Projected volume impact: 1.6 million, up from 1.4 million 10 days earlier. 

At-risk production

AutoForecast Solutions deems production lost at plants closed for more than 21 days at risk and potentially unrecoverable. Currently, 202,000 of the 780,000 announced units are categorized as at risk, up from 145,000 as of Feb. 16.
