Hospitals and law enforcement agencies across the U.S. have started receiving shipments of face shields, masks and other medical equipment from automakers that are working to alleviate shortages while their vehicle assembly lines are dark.

Some of those on the front lines of the fight against the coronavirus outbreak expressed gratitude with photos on Facebook and Twitter.

A hospital in Baton Rouge, La., said Ford Motor Co. workers drove all the way from Michigan with a load of 2,000 face shields. Ford said it expected to ship 1 million of the shields by the end of last week. It was ramping up production so fast that it ran short on elastic and found a way to use pieces of door seals instead.

Meanwhile, New York City’s hospital system thanked Tesla for donating 40 ventilators.
